Be WELL Study Components

 

The Black Women's Experiences Living with Lupus Study (Be WELL Study) has the following components:

 

  • ​3 In-Person Visits

  • 2 Short Surveys

 

The entire duration for participating in this study is two years. The first thing you would do is an in-person visit. We will ask you to complete two more of these in-person visits, your second one being one year after your first in-person visit, and the third and last one being two years after your first in-person visit. In between each of these in-person visits, we will ask you to complete a short survey.

 

 

 

 

In-Person Visits

 

  • In-person visits can be done at the Grady campus in downtown Atlanta. They can also be done at your home or another location that is convenient for you. We just ask that there is a private space that is available for us to use.

 

  • Each in-person visit will take about 1 ½ hours of your time. During this time we will collect physical measurements, such as your height, weight, and blood pressure. We will also ask to collect 5 small drops of blood from your finger to look for signs of your health.

 

  • We will ask you questions about your health and your experiences being an African American woman living with lupus. Some of these questions will be asked on a laptop computer. We will have a laptop computer for you to read and answer these questions on your own.

 

  • There are three in-person visits. We realize that your time is valuable so for each time you participate in these visits we will give you $100 for your time and to compensate you for any travel costs .

 

Short Surveys

 

  • We will mail you two short surveys, about 6 months after your first in-person visit, and again 6 months after your second in-person visit.

 

  • These short surveys include questions to check-in on how your health has been and to find out about any changes and new experiences you have had in the past six months. Each of these short surveys takes about 15 minutes to complete.

 

  • You can return the short surveys to us through the mail or complete it online. We can also call you to fill it out over the phone.

 

  • For each short survey you complete, we will mail a $10 gift card to thank you for your time.
